Bethesda is the place to be for cultural enrichment
Located just outside Washington, DC, Bethesda, Maryland offers so many cultural and recreational activities for you when you live in Maplewood Park Place. In addition to the beautiful grounds, there are tons of great places around town to spend time outdoors. If you crave the excitement of live performances and visual arts, Bethesda has that covered too. Owner residents choose Maplewood Park Place as their home because of all the wonderful opportunities for enrichment on-site and within the greater DC Metro area.
The Great Outdoors
One of the best parts of the mild mid-Atlantic climate is getting out into nature. A great place to take a walk or get some miles on your bike is the Bethesda Trolly Trail just a block from Maplewood. This centrally located trail sits on what used to be the Rockville Trolly railroad tracks. It runs 5.9 miles and connects in Battery Lane Park.
Not far from the Trolly Trail are the McCrillis Gardens. This five-acre botanic garden is a lovely collection of winding walkways decorated by countless ornamental trees, shrubs, and flowers. This is a perfect outing for the plant lover in your life. Admission is always free.
Every second and fourth Monday of the month, the Maplewood Park Place shuttle can take you to the Cabin John Regional Park. This wonderful outdoor recreation area has a little bit of something for everyone. It’s an ideal spot for trail walking, a game of horseshoes, or a picnic with friends. The park even features a miniature train ride for when your grandchildren visit. This all-season park is perfect for experiencing Maryland’s natural beauty.
Bethesda Has It All
Maplewood Park Place offers you many opportunities for cultural enrichment. Mondays and Fridays are Movie Nights and matinees are shown throughout the week. You can also catch live concerts in our ballroom and piano lounge and stream operas and ballets in high definition.
If exercise is more your thing, we also have a full daily calendar of classes. Join us for yoga, strength training, and water aerobics or workout with our personal trainer in our fitness center. Some people enjoy keeping their hands busy without kicking up a sweat, and that’s okay too. We have art and craft classes, floral arrangement workshops, and all sorts of game clubs. You can shoot a game of pocket billiards, play social or duplicate bridge and challenge your friends to a round of mahjong.
Each month’s outings are something to look forward to. You can sample new restaurants downtown, visit galleries and museums, attend concerts, or shop with friends. There’s so much to do around Bethesda for the arts and culture aficionado.
The Music Center at Strathmore is one of Bethesda’s best resources. This multi-purpose venue brings a mix of classical and contemporary music to the area. Round House Theatre is the destination for traditional theater performances. Round House produces thought provoking theater that starts conversations. Jazz enthusiasts will feel right at home at Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club. Enjoy live music and dinner in an upscale environment for a perfect evening on the town. And just a few miles away you’ll find the Kennedy Center and Arena Stage in downtown Washington.
Never Stop Learning
“You learn something new everyday,” as the old saying goes. At Maplewood Park Place we mean that. In addition to all the curated programming, you can join the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at American University. This unique network offers continuing education via local colleges and often in the Maplewood Park Place community. You can develop your tech skills or explore a topic you’ve always been curious about but never had the time to learn. A diverse collection of topics is also presented at lectures hosted in Maplewood’s ballroom.
Maplewood also has a beautiful art gallery where we feature local professional artists and host wine and cheese receptions in our gallery space. This provides opportunities for you to meet the artists and hear them speak about their craft. We hang a new show every three months.
One owner resident commented, “It’s just an elevator stop away. You don’t have to get in the car to leave the community to see fabulous art, attend a lecture, or listen to a classical music performance—all you have to do is take the elevator to the lobby and attend the event inside Maplewood.”
Your fellow owner residents come from all walks of life: teachers, doctors, lawyers, and small business owners, to name a few. Many come from neighborhoods around Washington, DC, and others come from other states like Florida, New York, Arizona, and California—to be closer to their families in the area. With the freedom retirement offers, there’s always something new to experience. Maplewood provides abundant opportunities to spark your sense of curiosity. There’s no shortage of ways to spend your days in Maplewood Park Place. One thing Maplewood owner residents agree on is there’s never a better time to join a senior living community than right now.
