Balancing the equation

We all know wellness is important, particularly as we age, but what does the term really mean? For many, it’s a self-guided set of rituals that best suit each person. At Maplewood Park Place, a Continuing Care Retirement Community, we see wellness as a balanced equation of physical, mental/emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. We offer a myriad of enriching programs, on and off-site, to pursue this three-part equation and help keep you independent, wherever you are on the wellness continuum.

Understanding the principles

At Maplewood Park Place, wellness is an acronym for a balanced lifestyle with eight key principles:

Widening overall wellbeing

Empowering personal resiliency

Learning new skills

Living independently

Navigating nutritional goals

Expanding relationships with others

Supporting healthy habits

Strengthening body, mind, and spirit

These pillars are curated by our passionate wellness panel made up of our executive team.

From the day you move into Maplewood Park Place, our management team and hospitality committee provide you with a personal orientation. These introductions open the door to explore the many services, classes, and activities offered, and to help you select which ones are the best fit for you.

You’ll find your neighbors and our team members are exceptionally welcoming, and you’ll always feel included. The unique “under one roof” design of Maplewood Park Place helps you make friends easily—and deepen relationships—while dining, participating in shared activities, or simply walking through the well-appointed halls and stopping for conversation.

Promoting wellness

At Maplewood Park Place, we see health as a balanced equation of physical, mental/emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. To nourish the mind, we provide a variety of intellectually enriching programs, from book clubs to guest lectures, and offer mental and spiritual support in group and individual settings.

To nourish the body, Maplewood Park Place offers many ways for staying fit and active – at every age and level of ability – through our physical activities program.

Included in our wellness offerings, we host water aerobics in the heated indoor pool, as well as cardio, balance, and strengthening classes weekly in our ballroom. For a centering workout, you can enjoy Tai Chi and yoga with aroma therapy offered weekly. If an independent workout is your preference, the gym is open 24 hours a day. Personal training is available by appointment.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the Bethesda area offers plenty of locations for walking, jogging, or riding bikes. The Bethesda Trolly Trail, situated on what was once a streetcar line, is a favorite among locals.

Look for the monthly schedule on our website maplewoodparkplace.com. Tell us what you’d like to see added to the fitness roster! We’re always looking for new ways to mix things up and keep our programs fresh. This past summer, for example, we introduced line-dancing classes – a highly popular option.

Staying active

Build a full schedule at Maplewood Park Place through clubs and activities. Find your creative side through an array of artistic pursuits. Craft, knit, draw, paint, join the chorus, or take the spotlight in one our many theatrical performances.

To live as active a lifestyle as the one offered at Maplewood Park Place, you could spend all day in your car going from one place to the next, but fortunately, all of our classes and activities are under one roof.
